Welcome to our Lab guide for Granting Access to Google Cloud Storage Objects with Signed URLs!
Google Cloud Platform has the ability to securely connect to a VM through its in-browser shell. Sometimes, this shell can cause connection issues between your internet connection and the server. Below, you'll find some helpful steps and troubleshooting guides in case you run into issues:
-
Ensure that the lab environment has loaded 100% before launching GCP:
-
It is best to open GCP using an incognito window (by right-clicking on the Open Env. button) and log in using the provided credentials for the lab session, note that the credentials change with every session. This is to make sure you don’t accidentally log in with your own personal Google credentials.
-
Once logged in go to compute engine, choose the available VM as below, and click on SSH to open it in a new browser tab:
-
This should let another tab open which will load for a few seconds and connect to the shell.
Note that these steps were tested in Google Chrome. Also, if you’re still having the same connection error appear, please use another network or device. Corporate-controlled networks and computers will generally block secure connections for security reasons. Here are some additional steps you can take if that’s the case.
-
Log off from the platform and close all open browsers.
-
Clear cache and cookies. (very important to clear the stored URL that may have been causing the error leading to broken link)
-
Ensure direct network connectivity is used versus VPN/ proxy which tends to block connection.
-
Please make sure no antivirus or firewall is blocking the environment from opening.
-
Start a fresh browser and log back in, allow cookies if prompted.
Additional steps to isolate the issue:
-
Use a different network.
-
Try opening the lab using a different browser and device.
-
Check the network speed.
In case the issue persists after following all the above steps, please email support@cloudacademy.com the below details:
What type of network connection do you have?
What browser was used (name of the browser, version) was any other browser used, and what was the outcome?
Details of the device used to test (PC or MAC) and OS
Were multiple devices used to test as well as the outcome
You're general geographic location
Optionally, you could provide the browser logs to support using the same email above. Here are the steps to obtain your logs:
1. Open the lesson on chrome
2. When everything is loaded right click -> inspect
3. Go to the "network" tab
4. Reload the page keeping the inspect open
5. You should see a bunch of network calls
6. Right-click near the name of one of those call and select "save all as HAR with content"
7. Go to the console tab, right-click -> save as
8. Please zip the results and email them back to me.
I hope this helps and if you have any additional questions or concerns please email support@cloudacademy.com
