This article explores the Expert Learning Assistant (Ela), an AI assistant integrated into Labs, and provides instructions on how to access and use this feature.
Ela (Labs AI Assistant)
Ela is an AI chatbot that has been integrated into selected hands-on Labs to provide personalized support and feedback as you learn. You can ask questions, get help finding bugs, request code explanations, and more 24/7!

Accessing and using Ela
You can find all Labs that integrate Ela using the "AI-Assisted" filter in the Training Library. Each Lab featuring Ela has a widget on its landing page.
While on the Lab Session page, click the "Star Emoji" on the right-side navigation bar to open Ela. Before proceeding, you will need to accept the terms of service—this step is required only once.
Once you have the Ela open, you can use suggested prompts like "Explain a code segment", "Find a bug in my code", or "I have a question about this Lab" or create your prompts.
You might find it helpful to know that:
-
The system is designed to retain information from interactions within the lab session, but all conversations will be automatically deleted at the end of each session.
-
You can easily provide feedback on each interaction by clicking the thumbs-up or thumbs-down icon to rate your satisfaction. If you give a negative rating, you'll also have the option to provide detailed written feedback.
-
Our goal is to ensure Labs remain a meaningful learning experience. Ela will not give full solutions and there is a limit of 10 questions you can ask per session.
- To preserve the integrity of the learning experience, Ela is not available in Lab challenges.
