Ela Tutor provides instant support while you are actively engaging with material in courses and labs. While the Advisor builds your path, the Tutor ensures you understand the concepts within that path.

Ela is available across all learning experiences on the platform — whether you're in a course, program, or blended learning path. You'll find it inside lessons and labs, where you'll see the Ask Ela button in the hero area of the page, to the right of the title. From there, you can use Smart Actions to learn more efficiently. 

Note: Ela is not available during exams or quizzes.

Beyond answering questions about course content and providing instant support, Ela offers several smart features designed to make your learning experience more engaging and interactive.

1. Summarize

Ela distills lessons into concise summaries, highlighting the key points and essential takeaways for easier understanding. 

2. Test Your Knowledge

Reinforce your learning with interactive quizzes based on the material you've studied. These help you gauge your understanding and identify areas that need further review. 

3. Explain Concepts

Ela simplifies complex topics with clear explanations or analogies, addressing any confusion and answering questions related to your content. 

Highlight Text for Insights: Ela can also define, describe, and explain any text available on the platform — such as a course description or a lecture transcript — without the need to copy-paste or switch to chat. Simply highlight the text and ask Ela. 

Smart Actions are available only on QA content. This means you won’t find Smart Actions on third-party or custom content. However, you’ll still be able to ask Ela questions directly in the chat.
