This article describes the Expert Learning Assistant (Ela), QA’s Learning AI Assistant, detailing its capabilities, limitations, and how you can access it.
Ela
Our Expert Learning Assistant (Ela), is an AI-powered tool designed to support and enhance every aspect of your learning experience. It is currently available in a selection of courses and labs. Ela is designed to help you review and better understand the study materials available on our platform, enhance your technical learning, and identify the root causes of errors in our labs.
Ela's Capabilities
The AI Assistant is designed to make your learning experience seamless and more engaging in the following ways:
Answer Content-Related Questions: Ela can clarify concepts, lessons, or lectures directly tied to your course material, providing detailed explanations when needed.
Identify Bugs and Provide Code Explanations in Labs: The AI Assistant offers personalized feedback to enhance your technical learning and helps identify the root causes of errors in your code.
Test Your Knowledge: Ela can ask follow-up questions or quiz you on the course content to reinforce your understanding and help you practice key concepts.
Explain Course Material: Whether you’re working through a video lecture or a text-based lesson, the Assistant can summarize, simplify complex topics, explain, or elaborate on the material to ensure you fully understand it.
Ela's Limitations
Although the Learning Assistant is a versatile tool, there are certain areas where it’s not designed to assist. Here are a few examples of it's limitations:
Respond to Platform-Related Queries: It cannot answer questions about your membership, subscription, account settings, or technical issues related to using the platform. For these concerns, contact our Support Team.
Provide Irrelevant Information: The AI Assistant is focused on your learning. It cannot answer general knowledge questions unrelated to your course, such as, “What’s the weather like in Shanghai?” or “Where can I buy a lion cub?”
Provide Full Solutions in Labs: To maintain the labs as a meaningful, effective, and valuable part of the learning experience, the AI will not provide complete solutions and is not included in lab challenges.
Act as an Authority Beyond the Course: If you ask questions outside the course material, the AI Assistant may attempt to respond, but these answers might not be accurate or aligned with the course standards. We suggest always verifying out-of-scope information independently.
Replace Human Support: Although the AI Assistant is a great tool for learning, it cannot replace the personalized advice, support, or instruction that a human tutor or customer support agent can provide. Please contact customer support.
Important reminders
Help improve Ela by providing feedback.
We’re committed to continuously improving the Learning Assistant, and your feedback plays a crucial role. If you notice an inaccurate response, experience an issue, or have suggestions for improvement, you can easily provide feedback directly within the Assistant interface. After receiving an answer, you’ll find options to rate its helpfulness or report concerns. Your input helps us refine the AI to meet your learning needs and ensure a high-quality experience.
Use AI Ethically and Responsibly
The Learning Assistant is here to support your educational journey, not to replace the critical thinking and effort essential for true learning. We encourage you to use it as a supplementary tool to enhance your understanding of the material, not as a shortcut to complete assignments or bypass studying.
As with any AI system, it is important to recognize that the Assistant may not always provide perfect or completely accurate answers. While we strive to ensure the highest quality and relevance, occasional errors or misunderstandings may occur due to the inherent limitations of AI.
