Ela is QA's AI learning companion, available inside your live virtual (VILT) courses. It's there to help you prepare, stay on track, and keep practising — at the moments when it's most useful to you.
What Ela can and can't do
Ela has context about your course: the syllabus, topics, and any information you provided the first time you logged into Ela — like your role, experience level, and learning goals.
You can ask it questions about the course, dive deeper into topics, get relevant examples, or work through ideas in conversation. What it doesn't have is a live view of your session — it can't hear your instructor, see shared screens, or follow collaborative activities and questions raised in the room.
Note: We recommend staying present during live sessions. You'll get the most from your course by engaging in real time with your instructor and fellow learners. Use Ela before or after class, or during breaks if something
needs clarifying.
1. Before your session — get ready for class
Use Ela before your session starts to set yourself up for success. You can ask it to:
- Give you a quick overview of what the course covers and how it's structured
- Summarise the syllabus so you know what to expect
- Help you think about what you already know and where you'd like to focus
2. During class — follow along
If you want a little extra support while you learn, Ela can help in the background. You can ask it
for:
- Tips and context relevant to the topic being taught
- Examples that connect course content to your work or goals
- Quick explanations to reinforce something you've covered during the course.
Note: Ela works best here as background support — keep your main focus on the live session.
3. Between sessions — stay on track
Once a session wraps up, use Ela to:
- Revisit key concepts from the session
- Work through activities and exercises to test your understanding
- Ask follow-up questions you didn't get to raise in class
- Prepare for what's coming in your next session
4. After the course — keep it going
Ela stays available after your course ends. Use it to apply what you've learned in your role, or to
prepare for certification.
Smart Actions
You can also use Smart Actions to get started faster. These are predefined prompts that appear as buttons below Ela's messages — like How should I prepare? or Explore Course. Tap one to send that request to Ela instantly, without having to type anything.
Note: Smart Actions are only available in Ela, not in learning buddies. Each tool is built for a different purpose, so this is by design.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ela know about my specific course? Yes. Ela has context about your course content and syllabus, as well as the information you shared when you first logged into Ela. That's what helps it give you relevant, personalised support throughout the course.
What if I have a question my instructor didn't answer? Ela is a good place to start. After class, ask it the question — it can often give you a clear explanation or point you toward the right area to explore.
Can I use Ela after the course ends? Yes. Access continues after course completion and you can access it via your myQA account.
Are the “Test Me” quiz questions the same as official certification exam questions? No. These questions are not provided by the certification body. They are generated from the course content delivered by the trainer and are designed for practice and understanding, not as a preview of the real exam.
How is my data and privacy handled? All interactions with Ela are processed according to the QA privacy policy you can find in your milestone.
What if my organization doesn't want to use AI tools? Ela is an optional addition — your course works fully without it, and your learning outcome is unaffected. You can simply choose not to use it.
