Where You Find the Video Player Controls
When you start a video course in QA, the video begins playing in a video player. When you hover your mouse over the video player, tools appear overlaid on the video. In the following graphic, you can see where the tools appear at the bottom and on the right side of the video player window.
Available Video Controls
The video player tools give you control over your watching experience. The following table lists the tools and explains what each one does.
Picture-in-picture: Click this icon on the right side of the screen to launch a special window for the video. Then you can go back to using your browser window for other purposes.
Progress bar: The bar across the bottom of the video provides a visual indication of how much of the video you have watched. You can click on the bar to jump to a different point in the video.
Play/Pause: When the video is playing, this button turns into a pause button. When the video is paused, it turns into a play button.
Back 10 seconds: Click this button to jump back 10 seconds in the video.
Forward 10 seconds: Click this button to jump forward 10 seconds in the video.
Time watched: The number you see on the left shows how much of the video you have watched at this point. This number increases as the video plays.
Total time: The number on the right shows the total video play time. This number stays the same throughout the video.
Playback speed: Click to change how fast the video plays. Hover your mouse over the speed to show a menu where you can choose a faster or slower speed.
Volume: Hover your mouse over the speaker icon to show a bar that you can click to change the volume level. This audio volume control is in addition to your computer's volume control, so if you are having problems with the audio, check both volume controls.
Playback quality: Click to change the video quality. If your internet connection is slow, you might get better performance by reducing the quality. Hover your mouse over the gear to show the quality options.
Subtitles: Click to turn subtitles on or off and to choose which language you want for your subtitles. Many lessons have subtitles in languages beyond English, including Portuguese, French, Spanish, and German. Hover your mouse pointer over the CC to show the subtitle options.
Full screen: Click this control to show the video in full-screen mode. Press the Esc key on your keyboard to leave full-screen mode. |
Finishing a Video
When a video course is over, a message appears to congratulate you on your progress. If the course is part of a larger course, this message includes the title of the video course coming up next. After the loading indicator completes, the next video starts.
The button in the middle of the screen is intended to jump to the beginning of the next course in the course. If you want to pause between lessons, you must wait until the next course is started, then use the pause button in the lower left corner of the video player.
Tip: You might want to let the progress indicator around the button in the center finish loading on its own. The course may wait until the progress indicator finishes loading to consider this video course as complete.
